Artist Coaching

As an independent band artist, singer / songwriter, solo performer or orchestral folk metal collective of seismic proportions, you are faced with a whole raft of challenges:

  • Rehearsal schedules
  • Booking gigs
  • Writing and arranging your music
  • Recording and distributing your music
  • Developing a fan base
  • Garnishing media attention
These are just a few (convincing your drummer’s significant other that rehearsing at their place is a really good idea is probably the biggest challenge…but we digress).  With all of those challenges, a common response that we hear from bands is “we need a manager”.   Well, we’re here to tell you that you don’t.  The reality is that most bands don’t make or have a lot of money to throw around, and certainly not enough to throw at a “manager”.  Bands can probably book themselves into a bunch of gigs if they are committed.  They can even find some decent recording space and possibly come up with a reasonable recording and maybe they can build a fan base and all of the other stuff that I mentioned above.  Any “manager” that tells you that they’ll turn you into the next big thing and all they need is (insert dollar amount here) and (insert percentage here) of your revenue should be walked away from quickly (with a few exceptions…but a quick google search will help you with that)

OK…so what’s is this all about then???

You can do everything on your own – but the question is…

what do you need to do different or better?

and that’s a question that’s difficult to answer on your own.  Why?  because you’re too close to it.  Like I said, you don’t need a manager – what most bands DO need however is a little objective perspective on what they are doing.  Let’s face it, your friends and family can’t do that for you (hopefully…they like you a lot and don’t want to only say nice things), and if you look back at the challenges that you’re facing already as an artist, good luck standing back and really seeing what you are doing with any objectivity.

So that’s where we come in.

Types of Coaching

Artist Concept Development Coaching

Whether you are a solo performer, a singer/songwriter with a small back up band, or a full on rock orchestra, there may be this nagging question in the back of your mind (or perhaps you’re having heated discussions about it -That nagging question can be summarized as this:

Is what I'm  / we’re doing working?

There are a whole bunch of factors that need to be considered to answer this very difficult question:

Are there things we need to add, or take away (perfection has been described by some people as not when you’ve added just enough, but when there’s nothing left to take away)

  • What do we need to change?
  • What songs should we play?
  • What about the arrangements – are they working?
  • Is our set list impact-full?
  • Is our image right?
  • and ultimately…How can we improve?
We work with bands at various stages of their careers to help to answer these questions using a number of tools that will help put your musical concept into perspective.   These engagements can be as concise or involved as you wish, and Amplifier Buzz will work with you to define your goals for the concept development exercises and then to define the scope of the engagement.

Live Performance Coaching

Are you pretty sure you’ve got your act together in terms of your music, but you’re not sure about your live show? Trust me, we’ve all been there – you put on a live show and all your friends and family come out and afterwards they all congratulate you on how well you did, but what you really want to know is what did that guy at the back of the room think, and what about the booking manager, and so on…even if you ask them, you’re likely to get a polite response – so how can you get some real, honest and professional feedback?

That’s where we come in…

Live performances are the life blood of new bands – they are where you win over new As an independent band artist, singer / songwriter, solo performer or orchestral folk metal collective of seismic proportions, you are faced with a whole raft of challenges:

Sounds good – So what do we get?

Subsequent to the show you'll get full written feedback on every aspect of the performance – professionalism, stage presence, musicality, originality, image, likely audience (who would most likely go to see you play), set list feedback and suggestions, and any other feedback that is appropriate based on the type of performance being assessed.

As an option, we will can schedule a follow up critique at a later date to assess the impact of any changes you’ve implemented based on our feedback.
